My hair fell out when I hit the menopause: Maureen Nolan on the distressing complaint that affects nearly half of all women

Performing in a big- budget West End show is often an experience full of elation and angst, but for Maureen Nolan — a member of the Eighties pop group The Nolans — the stress of treading the boards was magnified when her hair started to fall out.

The singer was starring in Blood Brothers in 2005 when she first spotted the problem.

‘I was staying with my cousin, Sandra, in South London and I started noticing a number of dark hairs on the carpet,’ she says.
