At Combers Inside-Out, we've always believed that great hair starts with understanding the person, not simply the hairstyle they want.

Now we're taking that philosophy even further — right down to the scalp.

More of our guests are asking us about thinning hair, increased shedding, dryness, sensitivity, flaking and changes in how their scalp feels. Others don't have a particular concern; they simply want to understand how to look after their hair from the roots up.

That's why we're delighted to introduce Kate Newton, our Hair Professional and new Hair & Scalp Inside-Out Expert. 

Why Does Scalp Health Matter?

Every strand of hair grows from a follicle within the scalp. Looking after the scalp therefore deserves just as much consideration as looking after the lengths and ends of our hair.

Yet scalp concerns can sometimes feel difficult or embarrassing to discuss.

At Combers, we want to change that.

Taking Our Education Beyond the Follicle

Kate and Combers Director Simon Willetts recently attended Beyond the Follicle, specialist education designed to give Hair Professionals a deeper understanding of hair and scalp health.

The theory-led part of the course explored scalp function, hair growth and some of the hair and scalp concerns Hair Professionals regularly encounter in the salon. Importantly, the training also focused on how to have better conversations about hair loss and scalp concerns while understanding the boundaries of the Hair Professional's role. 

The practical session then brought that knowledge to life.

Working with a trichoscope, Kate and Simon examined the scalp before carrying out personalised treatments using Davines Naturaltech, before looking again to see how the scalp had responded. 

And that learning is now coming back into the salon.

A Closer Look With Our New Scalp Camera

Combers has now invested in a scalp camera, allowing Kate to take a much closer look at the scalp during a private consultation.

Rather than simply telling you what she sees, the camera means you can see it too.

That gives Kate an opportunity to talk through what she's observing, listen to what you've noticed and discuss an appropriate approach to your hair and scalp care.

It's another example of what Inside-Out means to us: looking beyond what's immediately visible and taking time to understand the bigger picture.

What Can Kate Help With?

It's equally important to explain what this service isn't.

Kate is an experienced Hair Professional with additional hair and scalp education, but she is not a trichologist and Combers does not medically diagnose hair or scalp conditions.

Instead, Kate can listen, take a closer look at your scalp and help you understand appropriate professional hair and scalp care.

Where a Davines Naturaltech regime may be suitable, she can recommend one. Where something needs the opinion of a trichologist or medical professional, she'll tell you. 

That distinction matters to us.

Good professional care isn't about pretending to have every answer. Sometimes it's about knowing when somebody else is better placed to provide it.

Introducing Davines Naturaltech

Naturaltech is Davines' professional programme developed around different hair and scalp needs. Davines describes the concept as where nature and technology meet, with families targeting a range of scalp and hair concerns. Davines International

It includes targeted ranges for concerns such as sensitive or oily scalps, dandruff, dry and damaged hair and fragile or thinning hair.

Rather than choosing products because they're popular on social media, our approach is different.
