Meet The Talented Team

At Combers Inside-Out Hairdressing In Taunton

We often compare ourselves more with a tribe than a team as we are individuals who are travelling together on a journey, where each of us contributes and everyone is important.

Some of our hairdressers are employed and others are independent.  Together we do our best to make a difference - an improvement - to your day.

Mastering the art of difference-making begins with a thought inside, which leads to a different way of seeing. Magic happens when you create your dream together. It feels different, comfortable but challenging, special and affirming - a completely new experience where anything is possible.

Cameron Willetts

Cameron Willetts, Director of Combers Outside-In Academy having earned his stripes as an apprentice, is now continuing to learn new skills by being mentored by the best hairdressers London has to offer as well as working alongside the tribe of hairdressers at Combers Inside-Out.

Much of 2019 saw Cameron being mentored by Adam Reed and assisting him on Fashion shoots, London Fashion Week, X Factor and GHD events. Cameron explains it this way, “Increasing my exposure to new thinking and diverse ideas and inspiration is important to me as my intention is to artistically lead, motivate, inspire, teach and influence hairdressers myself, sharing in the same way others have with me.”

2020 started very well for Cameron being mentored in Italy for 5 days, by North America’s Colourist of the Year, Roch Lemay, from Montreal. This was a week for invited Master Colourists from USA, Canada and Germany, to learn from a colour genius, so for Cameron to be mentored in this esteemed company was an honour.

He has already been invited to work in the US and working on a Combers’ international exchange programme with several salons.

Cam said “this is the highlight of my career so far. I was encouraged to reflect on my working skills from inside out, which are coincidently the Combers’ way, hence our unique brand of ‘Inside Out Hairdressing”.

This unique opportunity took place in the Davines Sustainable Village in Parma, Italy, where Davines Scientists also shared their knowledge and skills. This experience has enabled Cam to master any hair colouring challenge he may encounter and enhance his expertise as a Master Colourist. “What I have learnt in just five days is as remarkable as it was unique. A completely new approach that even I could not have imagined, and cannot wait to share with our team and my guests”.

“ I now have the knowledge and skill to match my energy, having developed my own unique colour signature and bespoke hair cutting style for my guest. This and an insatiable thirst for more knowledge, working with a beautiful team who support each other inside and out, working in the best salon in the South West, I am certainly enjoying life”

2021 Cameron succeeded in winning himself a place on the 'Clubstar' Team for the prestigious Hair Fellowship of Great Britain. Just one of 8 members he has had a year of mentoring from the best in the business once a month culminating in a final fashion show and photo shoot.

End of 2021 for 2022 He is applied and was accepted on the Project X team for the Fellowship which is next level up and is working with a new team and with even more exciting mentors building on his ever-increasing skills and talent. After the first Month he was invited to work on New York Fashion Week which he was pleased to accept.....Learning new ideas and being able to bring them back to Taunton and share with his teammates and his guests behind the chair, and practising the art of difference-making, is what makes Cameron tick......"2022 is shaping up to be the best year yet. "

In November 2022 the Project X team had their presentation evening in London where they presented to Hairdressing royalty and the press. Cam was one of only 3 that was presented with project X achiever of the year finalist.......then on December 5th at the Hairdressing Fellowship of Great Britain awards Luncheon at the prestigious, London hotel in Leicester Square was presented overall winner.

Cam has recently entered photographic evidence of past work and achievements, CV and a 5 minute video presentation to be considered for the Sassoon mentoring programme, and Cameron has just heard that he has been accepted. So in 2023 Cam will continue his development and journey in hairdressing but this time very specifically learning and working with some of the Sassoon stars, who have continued pushing the boundaries on the skills and artwork legacy of the master hairdresser, Vidal Sassoon.

Cam wants to earn the right to join the Fame Team, which is the hairdressing Fellowship team that demonstrates and teaches all over the World......These guys are the best of the best, so my focus is to learn, listen watch and apply the disciplines of the master craftsmen that inspire me every day......many of them work with me at Combers Inside-Out, and nothing delights me more than when I can make a difference in each and every guest that sits in my hairdressing chair.....In fact it's a privilege.

When I am not in the salon, working on location, photoshoots or learning hairdressing, it is important for me to balance my life with fitness as it helps my mind and body to be more resilient. I go to the gym 4 days and I day Boxing training and on Sunday's its Foorball. I also find time to work on my voice with a voice coach as singing is another passion that I first discovered at Taunton School, which I attended through to sixth form. I trust I will not have to ever sing for my supper, but it certainly fits the Combers Inside Out philosophy, as the more ways I can make a difference to someone else, the better I feel........Finding downtime with friends has always been important and I am lucky enough to have some very good ones from my school days at Queens Colledge and Taunton school, including school boy Rugby and Hockey for Taunton, that mean I can have time away from hairdressing and have a parallel life.

I look forward to seeing you soon……Call in for a free consultation and I promise I won’t sing to you….In fact I will be asking you my ‘Inside Out’ questions to get to know you far more and doing most of the listening.

I am one of those people that love to get things right, a detail person, maybe annoying to people that live with me but my guests seem to approve. I guess that is why I am a good listener and like to fully understand the brief before I give my honest opinion. I am honest as well as that is the way I like to be treated.

I have been a part of the Combers team since 1999. I was an apprentice here and have since got married and started my own family. I was keen on horse riding when I was younger and now I sit out and walk my black Lab, while my children learn. I also take my children swimming and we bake together (especially cakes). I would love to get back into more sport myself, but who’s got time for that with a young family and a career that is my full time hobby.

Now I am back working full time, I have chosen to be a Combers’ Independent Stylist, but choose to work with the team as they inspire me. I specialise in precision cutting, which seems a dying art now, with so many hairdressers chipping into hair left right and centre. I believe my character is perfect for a colourist as my precise applications go hand in glove with my cuts.

A great cut looks even better when colour is used to accentuate movement or texture, or define the shape and bring out shine. You can’t have a cup of tea without a biscuit; it’s the same with a cut and colour. I passed my degree colouring course so I guess you can say I’m an expert, but I am still learning and growing, which I love.

Zeke Rawlins

I started in the hair industry when I left school, where I found my passion for colouring, cutting and styling hair.

After working in Taunton for a few years I moved to Cornwall to chase the surf lifestyle. Newquay was a great place to live and I soon found a unique salon with one of the best colour technicians I have ever worked with. He re-trained me in all aspects of colouring hair and I soon became a confident technician. Moving to London was the next natural career progression which was both fun and exiting. After having my first daughter I made the choice to be near my family in Taunton and moved back. I worked in a day spa for the first 5 years, but something was missing. I missed working in a salon environment. I missed the buzz and the energy that comes with a busy salon.

Combers Inside-Out is the premier salon in Taunton which suits me perfectly and I know my guests will appreciate. The product brand they work with is the premium Italian sustainable hair and beauty b-Corp brand ‘Davines’ (dav-in-ness) which is very special and unique, including the hair colour. Being a big colour specialist salon we naturally also use ‘Olaplex’. The salon has recently been refurbished sustainably and is the best looking salon I have ever worked in. Looking out into the Courtyard you don’t feel like you are in the centre of town – it’s calm and relaxing and the best restaurant in Taunton is next door. The Team at Combers are the most welcoming and creative people and their energy make work fun and enjoyable.

I am one of 3 guys that work in the salon, and it feels like I have found my spiritual home, and look forward to welcoming my guests to share in my ongoing journey with Combers Inside-Out and indeed welcoming new ones.
