Love to Last a Lifetime
Legend tells us that St Valentine – whose feast we celebrate this month – was martyred for
performing marriage ceremonies in secret. This piece of history still inspires people 17 centuries
later – a stirring testimony to the captivating power of romance.
Bridal Hair
A wedding is undoubtedly the most romantic occasion we celebrate, but getting married also ranks
as the seventh most stressful life event. The last thing a bride wants to fret about before she says
“I do” is her hairdo! Like her dress, it will be immortalised in photographs forever. It needs to feel
comfortable and pretty, but must also last throughout the event and photograph beautifully. Hair
might not be a bride-to-be’s first concern initially, but it is vital to her special day.
At Combers, we understand that choosing a hairstylist for your wedding can seem daunting. Bridal hair tends to be more complex
than regular styling, so it is best to work with someone who specialises in this field. We have wedding Conultants that will work with you in our salon or on location combined with make – up artists from Le Spa@Combers
Here are my tips
- Start early. Ideally, you should start planning your wedding hairstyle six months in advance. This allows for any gradual changes that your dream style requires. The best stylists also book up quickly, especially for weddings at popular times of the year.
- Shop around. A personal consultation is the only way to determine if a stylist is right for you. Make sure you know in advance what the consultation will include and whether there is any cost involved. For an initial consultation at Combers it is free, but this usually leads to a trial where you get an opportunity to ensure you like how you feel about yourself and how your hair works in the styles that you have agreed on.
- Do your homework. Gather pictures of styles that you like. Think creatively. On the Spring 2013 catwalks, popular bridal styles ranged from flowing and soft to demure and classic. They also featured a range of accessories, from dramatic headpieces to simple jewelled headbands.
- Arrive prepared. Take your favourite pictures along to the trial. Since you can’t wear your wedding gown, opt for a blouse or top with a similar neckline so that you can get an idea of the effect it will create. Also wear a colour as close as possible to that of your dress.
- Talk it through. A great stylist knows the latest trends in bridal hair and can interpret them for individual guests. At Combers, we recommend styles that will complement your face, bring the best out of your hair and provide the perfect finishing touch to your gown.
- Expect questions. Combers bridal consultants will want to know many details about your wedding. They need to imagine the bride in a bigger picture. Is the wedding formal or informal? What time of day will it be held? Will it be outdoors with plenty of natural light or indoors with artificial light? These are all surprisingly important considerations.
- Get practical. Discuss the specifics: your budget, where you want the styling done and how manymembers of the bridal party need styling. Do you need us on hand for the duration of your wedding or before the ceremony only? If you can get into Combers hairsalon, in Taunton on your wedding day it will always be less expensive than a location visit.
When I got married I arranged for someone to video the bridal party having their hair prepared, as its something that the groom rarely gets to see. It was a great fly on the fall peep at the early preparations and the brides maids and bride not to mention the proud mother, being treated like a film star with complementary combers Bucks fizz to calm the nerves or add to the excitement.
- Ask about wedding packages – for the bridal party.
We also can offer special wedding packages that go beyond hair to include makeup, nails and even spa treatments. ( ask for more information at you free consultation or call guest relations)
- Record it. Take a camera with you so that you can have photographs of the style from all angles(front, back and both sides). Note the exact products and techniques that the stylist used so that there are no unexpected surprises, even if the consultation happens far in advance.
- These tips will help ensure your trial and indeed your bridal look is as you want and expect. Combers wedding hair consultants understand brides. Your wedding day is likely to be stressful, no matter how flawless your planning is. We know how important it is to becalm under pressure, flexible and focused on solutions. During the consultation, we at Combers, understand the importance of being a good listener who is open to your ideas and makes you feel relaxed and comfortable. On your very special day, you need someone you can trust and rely on.
