Melanie Deeks

Administration & Operations

Melanie first joined Combers Inside-Out in 1994 as a part-time member of our Front of House team. At that time, the salon was fortunate to benefit from Melanie settling in Taunton, raising a family, and beginning married life locally — a twist of fate that proved invaluable for us.

Before Combers, Melanie had already lived a very full professional life, working as a Personal Assistant to high-flying executives, a role that took her all over the world. That experience shows in everything she does: calm under pressure, organised to the finest detail, and always three steps ahead.

Over time, Melanie naturally transitioned from Front of House to Back of House, which she describes as her natural habitat. Her understanding of administration, systems, and structure underpins the smooth running of the entire salon. She has an encyclopedic knowledge of Microsoft, adapts quickly to new systems, and now manages payroll, staff planning and rotas, holiday scheduling, salon sundry orders, and much more.

Melanie is also our undisputed guardian of the written word. Her love of good English — and obsession with grammar — is legendary. Apostrophes placed incorrectly do not survive long in her presence. Simon is kept firmly on his toes, and every letter, newsletter, and important document passes under Melanie’s watchful eye. A typo on social media is often met with a familiar tut… swiftly followed by a correction.

A skilled typist (using all her fingers, of course) and highly proficient in shorthand, Melanie is invaluable in meetings, capturing detail, clarity, and intent with remarkable accuracy.

While she is no longer Simon’s PA — largely because she simply doesn’t have time — Melanie now works more closely alongside Cameron, a role that suits her natural nurturing instinct and quiet care for others. Her support extends far beyond tasks and lists; she genuinely looks after the people within the business.

Melanie’s contribution is immense, often unseen, and utterly essential. Quite simply, the salon would fall over without Mel — and we are endlessly grateful that she is part of the Combers family.
