We often compare ourselves more with a tribe than a team as we are individuals who are travelling together on a journey, where each of us contributes and everyone is important.

Some of our hairdressers are employed and others are independent. Together we do our best to make a difference - an improvement - to your day.

Simon Willetts is a Hair Professional and Director at Combers Inside-Out, with a career spanning over four decades. He founded Combers in 1982, aged just 20, in the Courtyard, Taunton — originally a single room on the first floor, which has now grown into the salon’s unique Colour Bar and thriving creative space.

Simon specialises in restyles and transformative hairdressing, creating looks that suit each individual guest. For him, transformation doesn’t always mean cutting lots of hair or making dramatic changes; it’s about finding the right style, colour, and shape that enhances confidence and complements a person’s lifestyle. Every transformation begins with a thorough consultation, asking the right questions, actively listening, and sometimes offering a professional, considered opinion to guide the best result. Simon combines skill, knowledge, intuition, and understanding to achieve changes that truly make a difference.

One of the best decisions Simon ever made was marrying Carolyn, not only his partner in life but in business too. Together they have raised three wonderful children, all of whom have spent time working in the salon as assistants. One has gone on to join the business as a Director, while the others gained something just as valuable — real-world experience. Simon firmly believes that time spent in a working environment, especially a hair salon, teaches young people the soft skills that school alone can’t: communication, responsibility, empathy, and confidence. Skills that serve them for life, whatever path they choose.

He takes great pride in the legacy of Combers, not only in the salon he and his family have built but also in the countless hairdressers whose careers Combers has helped launch and nurture. Hairdressing for Simon is far more than a job — it’s a passion, a craft, and a way to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

Simon loves working with people, coaching, mentoring, and continuing to develop his own skills. He believes that even the smallest change can create a world of difference. Retirement is not on the horizon, as for Simon, hairdressing isn’t just work — it’s life.

Cameron Willetts is a Director of Combers Inside-Out and a highly respected Hair Professional, known affectionately by guests and the team as Cam. Often described as “The Inside-Out Hairdresser”, Cameron embodies the philosophy at the heart of Combers — hairdressing that begins with listening, understanding, and connecting before scissors ever touch hair.

Cameron trained as an apprentice at Combers and has since been mentored by some of the most influential hairdressers in the UK and internationally. His career has taken him from London Fashion Week, fashion shoots, and major brand events, to working alongside global colour leaders and international ambassadors. Each experience feeds back into Combers, strengthening the salon’s culture, standards, and creative direction.

As Head of Education Delivery, Cameron leads the training and development of Combers’ apprentices and coordinates with hair artists from across the UK to share expertise with the entire team. Education is central to his purpose — not only developing others, but continually developing himself.

Cameron is currently completing his Colour Degree with the international colour and beauty brand Davines, where he has been invited to join their national education team, working alongside their international ambassadors. His time training at the Davines Sustainable Village in Parma, Italy, alongside world‑class colourists, has deeply influenced his approach to sustainable, intelligent, and bespoke colour work.

Technically, Cameron specialises in precision-engineered hairdressing, rooted in the Vidal Sassoon philosophy. He loves ladies’ hairdressing and all aspects of colour, as well as men’s hairdressing, colouring, and barbering. He is also an expert in bespoke men’s hair systems, creating natural, real-hair solutions for men experiencing hair loss — transformations that go far beyond appearance and often have a profound impact on confidence and wellbeing.

Cameron’s career achievements include:

Winning a place on the ClubStar Team for the Hairdressing Fellowship of Great Britain Progressing to Project X, the Fellowship’s elite programme Working at New York Fashion Week Being named Project X Achiever of the Year Finalist, and later Overall Winner at the Fellowship Awards in London Acceptance onto the prestigious Sassoon Mentoring Programme, continuing the legacy of Vidal Sassoon through modern mastery

Outside the salon, Cameron values balance. Fitness plays a big role in keeping both mind and body resilient, and singing — another long‑held passion — is something he continues to develop with a voice coach (don’t worry, he promises not to sing during your appointment). Time with friends, many of whom he’s known since school, helps keep life grounded and full.

Carolyn Willetts is a Director and Hair Professional at Combers Inside-Out, with a career spanning nearly four decades. She joined the salon as an apprentice in 1985, long before it became the renowned Combers Inside-Out it is today. Married to Simon in 1990 and mother to Cameron in 1999, Carolyn is part of a family legacy — all three are Directors, sharing a passion for creativity, precision, and exceptional hairdressing.

Carolyn specialises in all aspects of colour and precision hairdressing, as well as perming. She is the go-to stylist for instant curls for both men and women, while also refining natural curls and frizz through expert smoothing and hair Botox treatments. Her extensive training and experience make her a trusted expert for clients seeking both transformative and low-maintenance styles.

Although she works two days a week with guests, Carolyn brings decades of knowledge to every appointment. She enjoys cutting and finishing her own guests, and loves collaborating with Simon in the salon — often joking that she handles the technical side better!

Known for her warmth, skill, and attention to detail, Carolyn ensures every guest leaves feeling confident, polished, and cared for. Whether you’re looking for a vibrant colour, perfectly crafted curls, or expert smoothing treatments, Carolyn combines expertise, precision, and a personable approach to deliver exceptional results.

Victoria is an Independent Hair Professional with a wonderfully natural ability to put people at ease. She’s often told she gets on with everyone — something she puts down to genuinely loving people, being fiercely loyal, and always seeing the lighter side of life. Her quick wit (which has occasionally landed her in hot water!) is part of her charm, and confidence has only grown with experience.

With a career at Combers Inside-Out that began in 2002, Victoria brings a wealth of knowledge and consistency that guests truly value. She specialises in all aspects of colour and ladies’ hairdressing, as well as smoothing and hair botox treatments, creating hair that looks great but also feels manageable and realistic for everyday life.

Victoria’s strength lies in listening. She has an instinctive ability to understand what her guests are hoping for — sometimes even before they fully know themselves. Being a mum to two beautiful daughters has deepened her empathy and communication, helping her connect on a very human level and build long-lasting guest relationships.

Known for her reliability and care, Victoria takes great pride in never letting her guests down (her near-perfect attendance record is legendary). Becoming independent has allowed her to create the work/life balance she values, while continuing to offer the same dedication and attention to detail she’s always been known for.

Lisa is an Independent Hair Professional whose journey with Combers Inside-Out began in 2015, when she joined the salon as an apprentice. From those early days, her ambition and drive were clear. What started as curiosity quickly became a deep commitment to mastering her craft — fueled by ongoing education, hands-on experience, and learning alongside some of the very best in the industry.

Lisa specialises in all aspects of colour, highlights, balayage, and ladies’ cutting, with a particular passion for hair extensions. She is a fully qualified Beauty Works hair extension specialist and educator, trained in all methods — from lengthening and thickening to infilling and transformation work. Total client care is at the heart of her extension services, ensuring results that not only look incredible but feel comfortable, natural, and long-lasting.

Smoothing hair botox treatments are another area Lisa loves, especially seeing the confidence boost they give guests when hair becomes easier to manage, shinier, and healthier-looking. Whether a guest is seeking subtle enhancement or a complete transformation, Lisa approaches every appointment with precision, honesty, and attention to detail.

Based in Taunton, Lisa describes herself as ambitious, grounded, and invested in building a career she’s proud of. Having previously worked independently in her own space, she has returned to what she calls her spiritual home at Combers Inside-Out. Hello, I’m Svitlana Kasianenko, originally from the beautiful city of Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine. My journey into hairdressing has been shaped by creativity, resilience, and a deep love of helping people feel confident and cared for.

Before moving to England, I studied at the Academy of Culture, where I achieved my Master’s degree. Alongside this academic journey, life brought marriage and the joy of becoming a mother to my wonderful son. During my pregnancy, my creative drive led me to train in manicure, pedicure, and hairdressing, eventually opening my own salon from home. Even then, my passion was clear — combining technical skill with creativity to bring joy and confidence to others.

Arriving in England marked a significant turning point in my life. I was incredibly fortunate to meet a kind and supportive family who welcomed my son and me, helping us rebuild and find stability. This generosity was followed by another life-changing opportunity when Simon invited me to join Combers Inside-Out. I began as a Lead Assistant Hair Professional and immersed myself in the Combers Academy Refresh & Development Programme, where I spent over a year strengthening my technical skills and understanding the Inside-Out approach to hairdressing.

Having now graduated, I am proud to work as a Hair Professional at Combers Inside-Out, offering services across all aspects of colour, hair extensions, smoothing and hair botox treatments, and tailored ladies’ hairdressing. including Mens and Childrens hair. I am meticulous, thoughtful, and always guided by consultation — ensuring every guest feels listened to, understood, and confident in their choices.

While my heart remains connected to my homeland and I await the day my family can be fully reunited, I remain deeply grateful for the opportunities, support, and independence I have found at Combers. Every day I continue to learn, grow, and refine my craft alongside an inspiring team.

Creativity extends beyond the salon for me — I love drawing, sewing, and knitting, all of which influence my eye for detail, texture, and balance in hair design.

She has been part of the Combers Inside-Out family since 1999, beginning as an apprentice and growing into a highly skilled stylist with expertise spanning precision cutting, colouring, highlighting, balayage, and perms — a service she has mastered and sees making a strong comeback.

Alex is a natural detail-oriented artist. She believes that understanding her guests’ needs fully is the key to delivering exceptional results, and her honesty, attentiveness, and precision ensure every cut and colour is tailored to perfection. She is passionate about how colour can enhance texture, movement, and shine, making her precision cuts truly come to life.

A qualified colourist with a degree in colouring, Alex continues to evolve her skills, embracing new techniques and staying ahead of trends — all while keeping the fundamentals at the heart of her work. She loves combining her technical expertise with creativity, ensuring that every guest leaves looking polished, vibrant, and confident.

Outside the salon, Alex enjoys family life with her children and husband. She loves walking her black Labrador, supporting her children’s activities, swimming, and baking — especially cakes! She and her husband have also invested in two allotment plots, as they both enjoy growing, cooking, and eating healthy foods. Although horse riding was a passion in her younger years, Alex now channels her energy into her career, which she happily calls her full-time hobby.

Working as an independent stylist at Combers allows Alex to combine flexibility with inspiration from the talented team around her. She looks forward to welcoming new and returning guests, sharing her expertise, and helping every guest achieve the perfect cut and colour combination.

Meghan is an Independent Hair Professional whose love for hairdressing started early — quite literally growing up around it. With a mum who worked as a mobile hairdresser, Meghan was fascinated by the craft from a young age, watching how thoughtful cutting and colouring could completely change how someone looks and feels. That early exposure sparked a lifelong passion and a very natural path into the industry.

From cutting fringes for friends to experimenting with colour, Meghan always knew hairdressing was where she belonged. Today, she specialises in all aspects of ladies’ cutting and colouring, creating styles that feel wearable, flattering, and truly personal to each guest. She takes great pride in continually developing her skills and building a strong, evolving hair portfolio.

Meghan’s journey at Combers began as a Saturday assistant, balancing salon life with completing her Level 2 and 3 qualifications at college. Her love of learning, sharing ideas, and being part of a creative team quickly became clear. Becoming an independent stylist has given her the flexibility to grow her business while still enjoying the collaborative energy of the salon — something she values hugely.

Now a proud new mum to baby girl Wren, Meghan currently works Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. She describes herself as determined, hardworking, thoughtful, and cheerful — qualities we wholeheartedly agree with — and her calm, reassuring energy is something guests notice straight away (and one that baby Wren already seems to share). Making people feel comfortable, truly listened to, and genuinely happy with their hair sits at the heart of everything Meghan does.

Laura Pitman

Formerly known as Laura Stephens, Laura Pitman married in 2025 and brings the same creativity, warmth, and talent to Combers Inside-Out that her guests have loved for years.

Laura grew up on a remote farm on Exmoor, where farming should have been the obvious path — but hairdressing won her over long before mucking out ever could. While she’s swapped the Exmoor weather for life in the Blackdown Hills, her love of the countryside has never left her. These days, she’s usually accompanied by her two beautiful whippets, Bonnie and Bindie, who are very much part of her world.

Naturally creative and proudly versatile, Laura is just as comfortable blending rural calm with city polish. With a mum from Liverpool and strong connections to the city’s vibrant style scene, she effortlessly balances laid-back Somerset charm with sharp, contemporary hairdressing. Think Hunter wellies and Louboutins — both equally at home.

Laura has been part of the Combers Inside-Out family since 2011 and specialises in Ladies’ cutting and colouring, highlighting and ballyage as well as Men’s hairdressing and barbering. Much of her work focuses on beautifully natural results, but she’s always happy to explore something new if a guest is ready for a change. Her approach is thoughtful, honest, and tailored — offering advice, technique, and styling that suits both lifestyle and personality.

Above all, Laura loves connecting with her guests, making a genuine difference, and creating hair that feels right for you.

Catherine currently works three days a week, balancing her career with raising her two young boys. Motherhood has only deepened her appreciation for her craft and strengthened her passion for creating hair that makes her guests feel confident and cared for.

She specialises in all aspects of colour and ladies’ hairdressing, with a particular love for cutting. Hello! I'm Yaz Jones, and I couldn't be more excited to start my apprenticeship at Combers Inside-Out in Taunton. As a recent graduate and part of the Class of 2024, I'm thrilled to be part of such a fantastic team.

I have a passion for all things creative, especially makeup. For me, makeup isn't just about looking good; it's a way to express my feelings, creativity, and ideas. It's like painting on a living canvas, and I find it incredibly relaxing and therapeutic. I'm eager to bring this creativity into my hairdressing career, seeing every client as a new opportunity to create a masterpiece.

My love for hairdressing started when I was very young. I used to cut my Barbie’s hair, practice on my mum, and even taught her how to do French plaits. I've always had a creative streak, whether it's sewing, baking, painting, or making my own scrunchies. This artistic flair naturally led me to hairdressing, where I can blend all these skills and passions.

Being part of the Combers 14-16 Club has been an incredible journey. Working with the talented team on Saturdays and receiving hands-on training after school has given me invaluable experience. I've been with Combers for over a year now, and my favourite part is seeing the before and after transformations of our clients. There's nothing more rewarding than seeing the joy on someone's face after a fresh, new look.

I'm Paige Emerick, and I'm thrilled to be starting my journey as a professional hairdresser at the Combers Outside-In Academy and contribute in making a difference for guests attending our salon Combers Inside-Out. Born in Somerset, I've moved around quite a bit with my family before finally settling in Wellington in 2019, and attended Wellington School where completed my secondary education.

I absolutely love it here in the foothills of the Black down hills, especially the beautiful walks and abundant wildlife. As a huge animal lover, I adore spending time with my whippet, Olive, my rabbit, and my chickens. My love for animals even led me to work at a local stables, as horses are another one of my passions.

I see myself as a highly creative person with a big imagination, which is why I enjoyed art and drama so much during secondary school. My decision to pursue a hairdressing apprenticeship was inspired by the confidence boost I always feel after a visit to the hairdresser. I love experimenting with my hair, whether it's a new cut or a bold colour, and I want to give that same amazing feeling to my clients. Helping someone leave the salon feeling better about themselves than when they walked is the best feeling and making a difference everyday is not only my ultimate goal, but my new mantra for the path of a successful and sustainable career.

I recently graduated secondary school and am thrilled to be starting my career in hairdressing at Combers Inside-Out, right here in Taunton. I’m proud to be part of the Class of 2024!

Meeting new people and making connections is one of my favourite things to do. It has really boosted my confidence and helped me grow both personally and professionally. Hairdressing has always been my passion, and I adore being creative and constantly learning new techniques. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been accepted into the prestigious Combers 14-16 Club. Working alongside the talented Combers team on Saturdays and receiving hands-on tuition after school has given me invaluable experience and a head start on my skills training.

Although Tina works part-time, her influence within Combers Inside-Out is very much full-time. Tina has been part of the salon since 1999, and her connection to Combers runs deep — so deep, in fact, that two of her children have also worked within the business, such is her love and belief in what we do.

Tina is one of those rare people whose contribution is often felt more than seen. She supports our Hair Professionals, Apprentices, and Directors tirelessly, often going far beyond what is asked — with around 40% of what she does driven purely by her own initiative. She sees what needs doing before anyone asks and simply gets on with it, quietly and consistently.

Although Tina is not a hairdresser, she is highly skilled in assisting with colour services, treatments, and supporting apprentices through their early stages and induction into salon life. Her calm presence and generous spirit make her a grounding influence for the younger team, offering reassurance, encouragement, and practical help along the way.

Tina also brings a creative eye to the salon environment. Her passion for interior design, space, layout, and atmosphere plays a huge role in how Combers feels as well as how it looks. From window displays to the overall flow and energy of the salon, Tina understands how surroundings affect wellbeing — creating spaces that feel calm, welcoming, and considered. She takes no credit for this work and is happiest simply knowing she has made a difference.

Meg Judd is a cherished member of the Combers Inside-Out team, working in a dual role as Front of House and Salon Assistant. Meg originally began her career at Combers as an Apprentice Hair Professional, learning the craft from the ground up. When she chose to focus on starting her family, she stepped back from full-time hairdressing — but her love for the salon never faded. She has since returned part-time, bringing her experience, warmth, and infectious positivity to every corner of the salon.

Meg’s background in hairdressing allows her to support both our Hair Professionals and Front of House team, ensuring guests enjoy a smooth, welcoming, and personalised experience. She loves helping clients feel at ease, offering guidance when needed, and providing practical support behind the scenes to keep the salon running effortlessly.

Known for her sunny disposition and ever-present smile, Meg’s approach to life and work is simple: “Yes.” Her can-do attitude and upbeat energy make her a joy to be around, lifting the spirits of both guests and colleagues alike. Meg believes that a positive attitude and a welcoming presence are as important as technical skill in creating an exceptional salon experience — and she brings both to every interaction.

Melanie Deeks

Administration & Operations

Melanie first joined Combers Inside-Out in 1994 as a part-time member of our Front of House team. At that time, the salon was fortunate to benefit from Melanie settling in Taunton, raising a family, and beginning married life locally — a twist of fate that proved invaluable for us.

Before Combers, Melanie had already lived a very full professional life, working as a Personal Assistant to high-flying executives, a role that took her all over the world. That experience shows in everything she does: calm under pressure, organised to the finest detail, and always three steps ahead.

Over time, Melanie naturally transitioned from Front of House to Back of House, which she describes as her natural habitat. Her understanding of administration, systems, and structure underpins the smooth running of the entire salon. She has an encyclopedic knowledge of Microsoft, adapts quickly to new systems, and now manages payroll, staff planning and rotas, holiday scheduling, salon sundry orders, and much more.

Melanie is also our undisputed guardian of the written word. Her love of good English — and obsession with grammar — is legendary. Apostrophes placed incorrectly do not survive long in her presence. Simon is kept firmly on his toes, and every letter, newsletter, and important document passes under Melanie’s watchful eye. A typo on social media is often met with a familiar tut… swiftly followed by a correction.

A skilled typist (using all her fingers, of course) and highly proficient in shorthand, Melanie is invaluable in meetings, capturing detail, clarity, and intent with remarkable accuracy.

While she is no longer Simon’s PA — largely because she simply doesn’t have time — Melanie now works more closely alongside Cameron, a role that suits her natural nurturing instinct and quiet care for others. Her support extends far beyond tasks and lists; she genuinely looks after the people within the business.

Melanie’s contribution is immense, often unseen, and utterly essential. Quite simply, the salon would fall over without Mel — and we are endlessly grateful that she is part of the Combers family.
